Week Ending 14.6.24
Acorn Class update
This week in Acorn Class, we focused on one of our British values and had a fantastic time designing and making our own polling station! This activity has been incredibly beneficial for our Year 2 students as they explore statistics in maths, and we're now looking at different ways to represent the data .
In literacy, our week kicked off with an engaging hook lesson on superheroes , which has inspired much of our learning. Our EYFS children have been working on sharing, grouping, odd and even numbers, showing impressive fairness and teamwork .
We've also been thrilled to observe the oystercatchers who decided to nest in our grounds this week. There’s just one chick left in the nest now, and the children have loved watching them!
Lastly, our apple tree is as fruitful as ever! We're eagerly anticipating the delicious meals we can create with this year's harvest .
Thank you for your continued support!
Oak Class Weekly Update!
This week in Oak Class has been full of exciting learning experiences and engaging activities!
We kicked off the week with a whole school assembly where we explored the question: Is voting the best way to change things? This ties into one of our British Values - Democracy. The children learnt about what a general election is and what will happen on election day. We also discussed the things we vote for in school, like which book to read and Class Dojo awards.
In English, we began our half-term unit based on the book Wonder by R.J. Palacio. The children have been developing a deep understanding of the characters, identifying formal and informal language in one of the chapters, and writing letters in character, using either a formal or informal style.
Maths has been equally exciting! Years 3 and 4 have been learning about statistics, focusing on bar and line graphs. Meanwhile, Year 6 has been busy calculating angles in triangles and quadrilaterals.
In History, we've delved into the achievements and legacies of Alfred the Great and the ancient Islamic civilisation. The children have shown great interest and enthusiasm in discovering these historical milestones.
Well done to all for their hard work and enthusiasm this week! We're looking forward to another week of learning and growing together into Mighty Oaks.
