Week Ending 28th February

๐Ÿ“ข Weekly Highlights at Mossy Lea ๐ŸŒŸ

This week’s Picture News assembly sparked some deep discussions as we explored the question: Why do we judge people based on their appearance? We were inspired by a girls’ football team in York, who launched the campaign 'Girls Can Have Short Hair. Get Over It." after facing comments about their appearance. Their story reminded us that we are all unique in how we look, dress, and express ourselves—and that first impressions don’t define who we are!

๐ŸŒ Acorn Class Adventures

In Geography, we kicked off our new unit on Africa, focusing on Kenya. We learnt that Nairobi is the capital city and that Mount Kenya gave the country its name! The class had a blast creating passports and boarding passes before taking a virtual flight to Kenya. โœˆ๏ธ

๐ŸŽจ Art was full of creativity as we explored Tinga Tinga paintings, known for their bold colours and patterns. Using potato mashers, sticks, and bubble wrap, we created our own unique pieces—messy, but so much fun!

๐ŸงตOak Class Creations

In DT, we began working with textiles, learning about seam allowance and practising running stitches. Meanwhile, in Science, we witnessed some exciting irreversible changes, including:

๐Ÿงช A vinegar and bicarbonate of soda reaction inflating a balloon!

๐Ÿฅ› Turning warm milk and vinegar into plastic!

๐Ÿ’ฅ A fizzy explosion when Mrs. Greenhalgh mixed mints with diet coke (which got a little messy! ๐Ÿ˜†).

๐Ÿšด Beyond the Classroom

- Year 5 took part in Bikeability, learning essential cycling skills with our collaboration school St. George's.

- Some of our Year 4 & 5 students had an unforgettable experience performing in the Young Voices concert at the Co-Op Arena in Manchester—what an amazing opportunity to sing in such a huge choir! ๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽค

๐Ÿ“ข Upcoming Events:

Next week, we’re off to St. George’s for Focus Week (except Thursday, when we’ll be at Mossy for World Book Day celebrations—don’t forget your costumes!).

๐Ÿ’กโœจ Another fantastic week of learning, creativity, and new experiences!
