Weekly Highlights at Mossy Lea!
This week in our Picture News assembly, we explored the question: Is it important to have a morning routine? We discussed the benefits of starting the day well and how it can set us up for success. This links to the British Value of 'Rule of Law'—understanding how routines and structures help everything run smoothly. We also learned that 750 schools in England will trial free daily breakfast clubs starting in April, offering healthy breakfasts and morning activities to support learning.
Oak Class Highlights:
Maths:
Year 3: Parallel and perpendicular lines
Year 4: Coordinates
Year 5: Volume of solids and liquids
Year 6: Ratio and proportion
English: We became Icelandic news journalists, recalling key events from Arthur and the Golden Rope through role play!
History: We became experts on different aspects of Viking conflict and taught our peers what we had learned.
Computing: We had fun creating our own games using algorithms!
Acorn Class Adventures:
Science: We explored local habitats, searching the woods for things that are living, dead, or have never been alive. We also looked at world habitats and the animals that live in them.
English: We completed our independent writing pieces—African animal stories with a problem and a solution.
The highlight of the week?
Our duck and chick eggs have hatched! It was an incredible experience watching them emerge from their shells in the incubator. The excitement in the classroom was contagious as we witnessed the first tiny cracks, followed by the arrival of our fluffy new friends! They have now been transferred to their cages, where we can continue to care for them and observe their growth. What an amazing, hands-on way to learn about life cycles and the wonders of nature!
A fantastic week of learning and discovery! Well done, everyone!
