Collaboration with St George's
Our Collaboration with St George’s Church of England Primary School
On 1st March 2019, Mossy Lea entered into a formal collaboration with St George’s Church of England Primary School, a thriving and well-established school in Chorley. During a period of transition following our last Ofsted inspection, our pupil numbers had significantly declined. However, with the support of the Local Authority and our Governors, we recognised that a sustainable solution was needed to secure the long-term future of our school, ensuring that we continue to provide an outstanding education. The decision to collaborate with a larger school was made with this vision in mind.
Under the leadership of our Executive Headteacher, Mr Andy Purcell
Under the leadership of our Executive Headteacher, Mr Andy Purcell, who oversees both schools, Mossy Lea benefits from the experience and guidance of a National Leader of Education. This collaboration allows us to tap into the expertise of St George’s Senior and Middle Leaders, driving forward our standards and offering exceptional learning opportunities for our pupils. For the staff at St George’s, this partnership provides valuable experience working in a different educational setting, enhancing professional growth and helping both schools attract and retain top talent—a key factor in school improvement.
Our pupils at Mossy Lea are also reaping the rewards of this collaboration. By joining forces with St George’s, we now offer a wider range of enrichment activities, including residential trips and unique educational visits that were previously beyond our reach. Additionally, St George’s pupils benefit from using Mossy Lea’s expansive forest area, creating shared experiences that enhance learning across both schools.
Finally, the collaboration brings significant financial advantages to Mossy Lea. In a time of tightening budgets, the financial efficiencies gained through this partnership help secure the long-term future of our school. This stability allows us to focus on what matters most: rebuilding our reputation and continuing to provide an exceptional education for every child in our care.
