Acorn Class Trip to Astley Hall

🌿✨ Acorn Class Trip to Astley Hall! ✨🌿

Despite the weather, Acorn Class had an incredible time today at Astley Hall! Upon arrival, we were transported back to 1607, greeted by two servants from the past.

Our adventure began with a fascinating lesson about the plague and the methods used by a plague doctor. The children learned that in the 1600s, people believed covering their skin and smelling pleasant scents could protect them from illness, as they thought nasty smells caused diseases.

Next, we explored the world of herbal medicine, learning how different plants were used to treat various ailments. The highlight was visiting the walled garden, where the children got to smell the plants firsthand and create their own posies with their favorite scents to ward off diseases.

We concluded our trip with a tour of the hall, discovering how the masters lived. The children were intrigued by the historical insights into the master's bedrooms, bed-warming techniques, toilet use, and bed bug removal methods.

It was a successful and educational trip, filled with intriguing facts about plants, medicine, and some gruesome facts about history!🌸🏰
